To the subsequent peace between the two great nations the U.S. National Park at Put-in-Bay, Bass Island, Ohio - Perry's Monument was commissioned and completed in 1915. "To inculcate the lessons of international peace by arbitration and disarmament." On June 2, 1936, the memorial was established as a unit of the National Park Service by a presidential proclamation of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Symbolizing nearly two centuries of peace between the United States and Canada, the monument is administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, and it is the only international peace memorial in the National Park system.

No monument exists in Canada to this significant historic event.

It is our intent that the replica flag ship Detroit shall be Canada's tribute to those who were wounded or killed in that battle providing an opportunity to commemorate Canada's heritage, to promote an ongoing education and appreciation of Canadian history and to involve our youth in a unique experiential cultural learning activity.

It is also our intent that a plaque bearing the name and rank of these brave souls be displayed at in the King's Navy Yard at Historic Gordon House, Headquarters of Project H.M.S. Detroit
